Full-on Fish  and Wine Evening

starting at 7.30 pm prompt for some fizz in the garden.

Booking is essential as places are limited to 40 people.

Pascual Toso Brut

From the foothills of the Andes in Argentina comes this fresh, lively sparkling wine.

First class food from

The Royal Oak

and a selection of

outstanding wines from

Australia, Argentina and Chile

The dynamic duo of Martin and Ed are back for one night only,

never to be repeated—well not for a while anyway—with a cracking selection of interesting and, really different wines, matched with some sensational seafood.

There are also a cheeky couple of reds as a little night cap

Poached Salmon, Prawn and Smoked Salmon Mousse

Served on a Bed of Mixed Leaves

Served with a glass of

Domaine Day One Serious Rosé 2004

Deep pink colour, nose of ripe summer fruits. Quite full bodied for a rosé

with plenty of flavour but nice balance and a lightness of touch

and a glass of

Domaine Day Riesling 2004/5

Classic aromas of lime and sherbet, good intensity of flavour

with fine acidity and typical minerality. Long finish

*****

Baked Dressed Crab

with a Parmesan and Breadcrumb Topping

Garnished with Lemon Wedges

Served with a glass of

Domaine Day “G” Garganega 2005

Highly aromatic nose of flowers and citrus fruit. Very  appealing.

Deliciously crisp but multi-layered palate with perfect balance and lingering finish.

More body and depth than its Soave role model but much of the same fruit character

and a glass of

Hope Estate Verdelho

Intense floral aromas of orange blossom and honeysuckle with ripe citrus fruits overtones.

A lifted front palate, imparting sweet melon and lychee flavours

and a glass of

Domaine Day One Serious Rosé 2004

*****

Royal Oak Summer Seafood Salad

Warm King Scallop, Poached Salmon Fillet, Smoked Haddock, Prawns, Smoked Salmon and Tiger Prawns with Salad, Dips and Buttered New Potatoes

Served with a glass of

Domaine Day One Serious Viognier 2003

A wine that benefits from bottle age and is released when it’s opening out.

Peachy, apricotty nose with lots of richness and depth yet good balance

and a glass of

Anakena Ona White
A delicate blend of Viognier, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc

from Chile aged in French oak barrels adding complexity

and a glass of

Domaine Day “G” Garganega 2005

Winemaker’s Dinner

with Liz Heidenreich

From Sevenhill Cellars,

Clare Valley, Australia

Sevenhill Cellars in the beautiful Clare Valley was established in 1851

by Jesuit Monks and is the oldest winery in the area.

It is still a Monastery and Brother John May is the 7th brother Winemaker,

and still keeps his hand in, but it’s Liz who now fashions the wines.

Using the latest technical advances, employing current thinking and combining those with a wealth of experience and some very old vines adds up to some belting wines!

Currently working at Sir Cliff’s Vida Nova winery in Portugal

she will only be in the country for a week, so don’t miss her.

Australia Day

Gapsted Dinner

7.00 pm Start

Forget the past and raise a glass to our colonial convicts’ country

wishing them well for The Ashes 2009!!!

If only the Mother Country could produce wines as good as those on offer here,

that would wipe some smiles off.

Oh well, raise a glass to global warming and maybe,

just maybe, in 20 years it could become a reality….

Every test is a home test as pitches are unplayable in Australia,

so is Monty Panesar, now in his forties,

taking advantage of the gaping cracks in the Headingley wicket

in blistering temperatures in the high 30’s and looking for his 900th test wicket!!!

The event will be hosted by Martin, Ed and more importantly Richard Howden

the Export Manager of Gapstead Winery

situated in the beautiful Alpine Valley in Victoria.

Most of the fruit for these wines is from the King and Alpine valleys,

which is reflected in the quality and style of the wines.

They are  proudly Australian, i.e. fully ripe and fruit forward,

yet have an elegance and structure more akin to Europe.

We will explain more on the night.

Ed is generously sponsoring the event as are The Wine Bureau.
